The Manic Street Preachers (MSW) are a Welsh rock band formed in Blackwood in 1986. The band consists of James Dean Bradfield (lead vocals, lead guitar), Nicky Wire (bass guitar, lyrics) and Sean Moore (drums, percussion, trumpet).
The MSP's early music was characterized by their punk rock style, political lyrics, and iconic image that included military-themed outfits, heavy eyeliner, and repeated references to the bands' anarchist and nihilistic philosophies. Their debut album, "Generation Terrorists" (1992), challenged the music industry and British society in general with its provocative lyrics and eclectic sound.
Throughout the 1990s, the MSP continued to release successful albums such as "The Holy Bible" (1994) and "Everything Must Go" (1996). The former is widely considered a masterpiece, with its bleak commentary on politics, religion, and mental illness, while the latter is famous for its anthemic sing-along choruses and positive outlook on life.
In the early 2000s, the MSP's sound evolved to include elements of stadium rock and classic rock. Albums such as "Lifeblood" (2004) and "Send Away the Tigers" (2007) showcase the band's ability to reinvent their sound while maintaining their political and social commentary.
The band has been active for more than three decades and has won numerous awards, including a BRIT Award for Best British Group in 1997. They have also supported several charities, including the Campaign Against Living Miserably, which aims to prevent male suicide.
